The UFC opens the pay-per-view with "In Memory of Helio Gracie 1913-2009," in dedication to the father of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
Fight #1 - Nate Diaz (156) vs. Clay Guida (156)
R1: They fire punches to size each other up. Guida works in leg kicks while Diaz sticks to his boxing. Diaz has eight inches in reach advantage and he's exploiting it with jabs. Guida shoots at 3:12 with a single-leg, but Diaz defends. Diaz shoots at 2:40 and pulls guard. Guida climbs into Diaz's half guard. Diaz puts Guida in full guard. Diaz gets up but Guida climbs on Diaz's back. Guida puts Diaz back on the mat. Diaz uses a full nelson to take side control. Guida takes Diaz's back and then stand. Diaz holds for a kimura but Guida picks him high up and slams Diaz. Guida with a possible choke, but lets go and takes Diaz's back standing.

R2: Guida throws punches to get inside. Diaz attempts a hip throw but Guida stays on his feet. They clinch with Guida's back against the fence. Guida looks for another slam/takedown while Diaz looks for a kimura. Guida almost gets the takedown but Diaz stays in control on his feet. Guida holds Diaz's back and puts him down at 1:51. Diaz gets right back up but Guida still has control of his back. Diaz tosses Guida down, but Guida remains on Diaz's back. Diaz has a kimura attempt but Guida safetly walks over it. They're back up and Diaz tosses Guida down. The round ends with Guida in Diaz's full guard.

R3: They trade fast punches. Diaz sticks with his long reach by throwing out jabs. Guida covers up and utilizes head movement. They clinch and separate. Diaz winning the round so far with his boxing. Diaz raises his arms to taunt Guida to come in. Diaz lands more punches and Guida just covers up. Guida reaches for the takedown. Diaz with another hip toss but it allows Guida to jump on his back. The fans are overwhelming supportive of Guida. Guida akes Diaz down at 1:13. They're back up and Guida returns to work on the takedown. Diaz is down and stands up with Guida still on hugging his waist. Guida lands knees. Guida almost puts Diaz down, jumps on Diaz's back but falls off. Diaz drops a right punch on the grounded Guida. Round ends!

Fight #2 - Karo Parisyan (170) vs. Dong Hyun Kim (171)
R1: Kim throws a leg kick. Parisyan throws two wild overhands and clinches. Kim puts Parisyan down into full guard. Kim takes Parisyan's back. Parisyan stands up and Kim with left punches while still on Parisyan's back with a body lock. Parisyan tries to throw Kim off but Kim still has control on the ground. Parisyan loses his mouthpiece but no break. Parisyan tries to slam Kim down. Kim puts Parisyan in an armbar but Parisyan pulls out. Kim attempts a triangle choke but Parisyan escapes. They stand up at 1:14. Parisyan looks for a takedown but Kim simply takes Parisyan's back. Kim has both hooks in with 48 seconds left. Parisyan escapes to his feet. Kim lands knees to Parisyan's leg.

R2: Kim misses a high kick. Parisyan signals for more. Parisyan with a three-punch combo that's blocked and shoots. Parisyan goes for a throw but Kim again has Parisyan's back. But turns it around for a kimura attempt, that Kim escapes. They continue the fight in clinch against the fence. Parisyan goes for the single-leg and Kim defends. Parisyan lands a nice judo throw and lands in side control. They get to their feet. Kim escapes back into clinch. They break at 1:18 and the referee uses the separation to put a mouthpiece back in Parisyan's mouth. The referee warns Parisyan to not lose his mouthpiece again. They box. They clinch with 22 seconds left.

R3: Kim takes Parisyan's down. Parisyan in guard tries a triangle choke and pushes Kim off with a kick. He's warned for the upkick. Kim momentarily puts Parisyan down and again looks to take Parisyan's back while standing. Parisyan defends and they're back tied up. Kim hits a knee to the body. Parisyan throws a jumping knee. Parisyan takes Kim down and Kim gets back to his feet. Kim defends a takedown. Parisyan takes Kim to his knees but they're right back up. There's a minute left and still in clinch. Kim lands a left and Parisyan looks for the takedown. The fight ends and it's a close one.

R1: Jones misses on an overhand. Bonnar lands a leg kick. Jones throws a spinning kick. Jones with more kicks. They tie up with Jones throwing knees and Bonnar throwing punches. They clinch and Jones finishes a hip toss for side control. Bonnar escapes to his feet. Jones manhandles Bonnar to the floor. They're back up and separate at 3:10. Bonnar lands a leg kick that's almost caught. They clinch with Bonnar hitting knees to Jones' right leg. Jones takes Bonnar's back and suplexes Bonnar. Jones lands an unbelievable spinning backelbow that puts Bonnar down. Jones doesn't jump on Bonnar though. They clinch and Jones lands a knee to the head. Jones takes Bonnar down into Bonnar's halfguard.

Fight #4 - Lyoto Machida (206) vs. Thiago Silva (206)
R1: Given the option to touch gloves before the fight, they don't. Machida throws a high kick that's blocked. Machida throws a punch and then a leg kick. Machida with a body kick and Silva counters with a punch. The fight is paused due to an accidental knee by Machida to the groin of Silva. It wasn't that significant and Silva is soon ready. The fight is restarted at 3:55. Machida sweeps Silva down. Silva looks for a leglock and Machida steps off. Machida lands a knee and drops Silva with a left punch. Machida stands up from Silva's guard at 2:28. Machida with leg kicks to Silva, who stays on his back. Machida enters and leaves. Back to their feet at 1:38 and Machida throws a high kick. Machida drops Silva again with a punch and takes side control. Silva looks for a leglock and Machida gives up his full mount attempt. Silva lands a nice elbow and Machida responds with a punch. Machida trips Silva and drops a right, knocking out Silva at the end of the round!
Lyoto Machida wins via KO - R1 (4:59)
The fight on the card most likely to be a decision is so far the only fight to go to finish. Almost a shoe-in for knockout of the night.
Fight #5 - Georges St. Pierre (170) vs. BJ Penn (168)
R1: Referee Herb Dean will be officiating this welterweight bout. They touch gloves before the start. Penn moves in and they clinch, trading knees. St-Pierre grabs a single-leg at 4:08. Penn defends and St-Pierre lets go. St-Pierre goes for it again at 3:33 and Penn responds with right punches. St-Pierre lets go and they separate at 2:51. St-Pierre tries a double leg at 2:02 and Penn defends. St-Pierre lands a right and a jab. They clinch at 0:43 and St-Pierre comes in with a knee. St-Pierre punches on his way out. St-Pierre lands a leg kick and a punch to the body.
Nothing significant but St-Pierre lands enough strikes to win the round 10-9.
R2: Penn lands a jab. Penn comes in and lands another jab. St-Pierre clinches at 4:29. St-Pierre goes for the single-leg at 4:10 and finishes at 4:03. Penn immediately goes for rubberguard, and then closed guard. St-Pierre with punches. St-Pierre stands up and drops punches to pass to halfguard and then to side mount. St-Pierre drops a knee to the body. Penn escapes to guard but takes a punch. St-Pierre postures up and throws elbows and punches. St-Pierre stands up and cleanly lands punches and passes straight to side control. Penn escapes to closed guard. Penn has a cut under his left eye. St-Pierre with more punches.

St-Pierre connects on elbows from guard. St-Pierre stands and attacks his way back in Penn's closed guard.

The referee tells Penn to fight back. Penn escapes to halfguard at 2:12. St-Pierre advances to side and drops more right punches. Penn momentarily escapes but St-Pierre just moves to halfguard and then side mount. St-Pierre turns it up with 30 seconds left. Penn is desperately moving to stay alive in the fight. Penn does enough to keep the fight from being stopped.

BJ Penn deserved the beatdown he got. I've always liked and respected him, but lately he's been a little too full of himself, and the comments he made pre-fight about 'killing St Pierre' were unsportsmanlike and a bit over the top.
