Florida commission to investigate Petruzelli-Slice

The Florida State Boxing Commission has opened a preliminary investigation to determine if EliteXC attempted to influence the Seth Petruzelli-Kimbo Slice fight at EliteXC: Heat.

After initially saying that it would not look into the matter, the commission changed its mind after repeated calls from ESPN.com.

Joe Son arrested for gang rape

Joe Son, best known for playing "Random Task" in the original "Austin Powers" film, was charged on October 1 in connection with an unsolved 1990 gang rape, OC Register reports.

Son, real name Joseph Hyungmin Son, is also an unlikely cult MMA icon for his UFC 4 fight against Keith Hackney in December 2004, where he was repeatedly punched below the belt. This was back when groin attacks were allowed and perhaps sympathy has led to Son gaining a small cult of ironic fans despite an unsuccessful fight career.

Southworth vs. 'Babalu' at Strikeforce 'Destruction'

The light-heavyweight title bout between champ Bobby Southworth and Renato "Babalu" Sobral has been reset for Strikeforce "Destruction" in San Jose on November 21.

Southworth (9-5) and Sobral (30-7) were supposed to meet in September at "Strikeforce at the Mansion" but both suffered knee injuries.

Also, Joe Riggs (28-11) will fight Luke Stewart (6-1) in a welterweight contest, and Josh "The Punk" Thomson (16-2) will make his first defense of his lightweight belt.

Former WWE pro wrestler Bobby Lashley has joined the American Top Team.

Lashley, 32, carries with him a strong base in amateur wrestling. The Kansas-born big man won three national amateur wrestling championships while attending Missouri Valley College from 1995-1998. He is also a former National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) wrestling champion.

Lashley joins a camp that includes UFC competitors Thiago Alves, Thiago Silva, Wilson Gouveia, Cole Miller and Ben Saunders.

Main event set for 'UFC Fight For The Troops'

A welterweight bout between Josh Koscheck and Yoshiyuki Yoshida will serve as the main event for "UFC Fight For The Troops" on Dec. 10 at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

TUF 1's Koscheck (11-2) will look to go 3-0 for 2008. He scored via TKO over Dustin Hazelett at UFC 82 and won via unanimous decision over Chris Lytle at UFC 86.

Team Quest opens third location

Team Quest will expand to a third location Saturday, October 11 with the grand opening of Team Quest West in Tualatin, Oregon.

Matt Lindland, Dan Henderson and other members of Team Quest will be on hand for the grand opening from 11am-2pm.

The address for Team Quest West is 20110 SW 112th Ave. in Tualtin, OR 97062.

Spike TV orders Dana White's mob drama pilot

Spike TV has ordered a two-hour pilot for a mob drama from UFC president Dana White.

White thought of the idea for the currently-untitled project three years ago and hired Chris Bertolini, screenwriter of "The General's Daughter" to pen the script. Emmy award-winning Walter Hill has been tapped to direct.

According to Spike TV's announcement, "the story revolves around the explosive fallout that occurs when a Boston mob boss abruptly vacates his position and various rival factions face off in an epic battle to control the streets."
