Getting to Know Jason Chambers
Posted by Hibbert on January 15, 2005

Jason Chambers has a record of 16 wins and 4 losses as a mixed martial arts fighter. In addition, Chambers is an actor who has appeared on "Sex in the City" and "All My Children." He was a contestant on a season four episode of "Fear Factor."

When is your next fight?

I am currently training to fight in "The Total Fight Challenge" Feb 19th where I will be defending my title. I have been able to get together with some really sick cats here in AZ to prepare for this fight like Drew Fickett, Santino Defranceo, and Joe Riggs. Outside from that I have a BIG year of fights lined up!

1) Which CD's are most often in your CD player?

I listen to mostly Gospel rock and Bluegrass Country digs. But when those are no where to be found, Jay Z and some Rap/Hip-Hop do the trick.

2) What movie have you watched the most times?

Braveheart and Cocktail. Braveheart because I cannot get over how cute Mel looks in a skirt and Cocktail because I bartended for a bit in Manhattan while I lived there. (Chambers had a reoccurring role on "As the World Turns" as a bartender.)

3) What is your favorite TV series (past or present)?

Old Fav: "The Simpsons" New Fav: "Family Guy" I know its cliché but I really don't watch a lot of TV -except QVC, I'm addicted to home shopping, I mean how could I possibly live without a tomato dicer!

4) What's your best advice you can give to a fighter starting out?

Keep your hands high and your hopes higher.... (Laughs), no that sound like a fortune cookie. Train hard though. Champions are not made in the ring, they are just recognized there…But seriously keep your hands up.

5) How did you get involved in the acting business?

When I was in high school I endeavored to balance being on the wrestling team and theater...now that’s a mix. Mostly started to do the acting for the attention and ladies. (I went to an all boys high school; not my cup of tea.) My grandmother started the acting bug when I was 8. She would tote me to local movie auditions and plays that where casting. I realized this was my passion when i was 19 or so. I decided to take some classes in Chicago at "The Second City" and "Act One". Then on the advice of a friend who owns an agency; moved to NYC to further my training. It was really a good time, got to train with Renzo and study with a great Meisner teacher. Did a few soaps and stuff too! I am moving back to LA in a few months to continue the career.

6) Who did you look up to growing up?

Everyone. They were all taller.

7) If you could have a ten minute conversation with any historical or present figure, who would it be?

Jesus. He was the ultimate hippy and he had to be blazin. I bet his Jiu-Jitsu would be sick.

8) What is your favorite mma fight of all time (excluding your own bouts)?

The first UFC I watched stood out as my favorite. Not that there havent been better fights since then, but simple because I was never more awe-struck than watching Royce, Ken, emmanual, and all the guys going at it. I was instantly pulled into the vortex that is MMA.

9) If you could change one thing about the sport of mixed martial arts, what would it be?

I have on several occasional thought there should be a Union. I think that MMA is growing at an astounding rate and that we should all take the next step to become more mainstream. MLB, NFL, NBA all have unions. I hear about to many fighters getting screwed out of money, and being treated like crap. It’s a shame because we train our hearts out for these promoters to give them a good show and the few bad apples ruin it for the good ones.

10) What was your favorite holiday present you received last year?

I was home for the holidays. That was the best thing I could have received. Over the last few years I have lived in NYC, Chicago, Arizona, and LA. I don't really get the chance to see my family and friends as much as I’d like to…that and I got a Malibu Barbie.

Thanks for doing this interview. Do you have any final words?

I'd like to give a shout out to all my family, friends, and fans for their continued support of my career. Specifically Joe Goytia, Eddie Bravo, Shawn “the Terror" Terrance, and my sponsors www.AttackModeFightGear.com

Next week, we talk to Joe Doerksen! Check back every week for a new Getting To Know...!
